MOUNTAIN BIKING IN AND AROUND THE GARDEN ROUTE
The Garden Route offers the Moutain Biking Enthusiast so much opportunity in and around the Forests while enjoying nature and all the tranquillity of the Garden Route.
Our oceanic climate offers the adventurist at heart the perfect climate to enjoy the area all year round because we seldom reach extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures. For mountain bikers, there is nothing better than meandering through the mountains, going off the beaten track, winding down sand roads, and of course making their way through our forests. There is a track for everyone, whether you are a beginner or an advanced rider.
The Garden route also houses one of the oldest marked MTB trails in South Africa. Harkerville trail between Knysna and Plett meanders through the indigenous forests and will lead you to breathtaking views overlooking the coastline.
The Garden Route Trail Park is another great ride that starts at the Seven Passes Road between Karatara Pass and the Homtini Pass. This is a great way to explore the area and the ancient passes while doing what you enjoy. There are many options available and great for the whole family. It goes through farmland, on the lower slopes of the Outeniqua Mountains, and you can even take the track down to the Karatara River. This great trail is only 17.5km from Forest Edge Nature Lover’s Retreat.
Of course, while you are enjoying your ride and the adventure depending on the track you decide to follow and there are so many along the garden route as shown by Trailforks, you never know what you may find, from Leopards, the Knysna Elephant, birds and many other animals found along the Garden Route.
