HIKING IN THE GARDEN ROUTE
There is so much beauty among the closed-canopy forest walks, hearing the trees rustle while you
smell the freshness of the damp soil, and hear the birds chirping.
People who have visited our little treasure in the forest will know that we have a walk starting right outside our gate and great things to do. Drupkelders, the beauty of this trail is the fact that only 15 people are allowed a day, making it one of the most peaceful trails around. We also have the Bibbys’ Hoek Garden Route National Park gate at the entrance to the road leading up to our gate. All permits can be obtained from them and, once you pass through their gate you have both the Circles in the Forest hiking trail. This trail is really stunning, and an easy to moderate walk for any fitness level. There is also a stunning forest pool, and waterfall along the walk, and you can hear all the sounds of the forest, including the frogs in the water pools.
Did you know if you if have to run out of the water, on a very hot day and it can become quite humid in there you can drink the water in the streams? The water may often display a dark colour but it is due to the tannins and humic acids from all the leaves that have fallen and came to rest on the forest floor. The nice thing about this particular trail is that it is fairly safe, being within the SANPARKS area, and you have two options a 3.1km walk as well as a 9km circle route.
