The Garden Route during the rainfall
We often book holidays or experiences and get all geared to go and look at our weather forecasts and realise it might be raining. Our first reactions are always negative ones, but in actual fact, it can be quite a blessing like the Garden Route during the rainfall
We as humans have forgotten what it is like to just be in the moment, and enjoy what life has presented itself with. Having a positive outlook on any situation can bring some really fun and innovative time spent, looking at the glass as half full instead of half empty.
Forest Edge Nature Lover’s Retreat is the perfect hideaway for people wanting to escape the fast-paced life in the City, with so much beauty and stillness, that it does not matter what happens outside of your cabin where the weather is concerned you can walk away rested and peaceful.
Forest Edge has a covered veranda “Stoep” in front of its wooden cabins where you swing in a hammock and read a book or you can just enjoy a warm beverage and sit and watch the birds frolic in the woods, smell the rain and just apply some mindfulness with nothing but the sounds of the Forest.

For those who are a little more adventurist and that want to go and explore the Garden Route there are quite a number of activities you can still do even if it is raining:
Scenic Drives:
There are many drives one can do to experience the beauty of the landscapes that surround Knysna, Rheenendal and the Garden Route, with plenty of places to enjoy a meal, or we can pack one for you. The Swartberg Pass, Seven Passes, and Montagu Pass are some of the passes you can enjoy during your visit.

Game Drive:
Garden Route Game Lodge is a stunning BIG 5 Game lodge.. Very knowledgeable guides will take you on a 2 – 3 hour game drive through their 2000-hectare Game Farm, with the majestic Langeberg Mountains as a backdrop. The drives are done in open vehicles but are covered overhead.

Birdwatching:
Forest Edge Nature Lover’s Retreat is the perfect stay for any bird-lover, we see everything from the Knysna Loerie, Nerina Trogan, Knysna Woodpeckers and Kingfishers. We also have a resident Fisheagle that is often heard and seen at our establishment. We have ponds with perches for these birds. You can sit on your porch and watch the birds. We are right on the edge of the forest so all the visitors frequent our Gardens making it the perfect place for birders to come and sit and wait for some great views or photographs.

Wine Tasting and Gin Tasting:
Gin tasting at the Knysna Gin Distillery and wine tasting at the Packwood Wine estate.

Cango Caves:
The Cango Caves are a must-see when visiting the Garden Route and South Africa. It’s a 20 million-year-old Caves system and consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer. You will be taken on a tour of the caves, and if you are a little more adventuristic you can slitter a little deeper down for the whole experience It is situated in the Swartberg Mountains, only 150km from Forest Edge Nature Lover’s Retreat. You will also pass several little farm stalls where you can find locally produced, Wool, Rooibos and several other lovely gifts and food items.

There is always a reason to visit or return to the Garden Route, and even enjoy the Garden Route during rainfall.
Hope to see you soon
